Latvia has announced the delivery of 42 Patria 6×6 armored vehicles to Ukraine as part of a military aid package approved by the government.

The armored vehicles were ordered earlier this year and, according to Defense Minister Andris Sprūds, the first units will be shipped soon. Latvia’s commitment to Ukraine’s defense includes military support equivalent to 0.25% of its national GDP.

The Latvian Ministry of Defense has assured that the donation of the vehicles will not compromise the operational capacity of its Armed Forces. In February, the Ukrainian ambassador observed the production of the first batch at Patria’s facilities, which manufacture around 30 units per year and also fulfill Latvia’s domestic demands.

The Patria 6×6 is a modern armored personnel carrier developed by the Finnish company Patria. Equipped with six-wheel drive, a powerful engine, and independent suspension, it can operate in rough terrain, cross water obstacles, and reach speeds of up to 100 km/h on roads. It can carry up to 10 soldiers, has armor protection against mines and small arms fire, and can be equipped with heavy weapons such as machine guns and grenade launchers.
